Background: A non-profit organization launched in 1984, FINCA International is recognized for overall leadership in microfinance and for having pioneered the village banking methodology, one of the major forms of microcredit. FINCA currently operates a network of 21 country programs in Latin America, Eurasia, Central Asia and Africa, serving hundreds of thousands of clients. Client assessment research is conducted annually, gathering social and economic data on thousands of FINCA clients each year.
Call for Interns: In order to maximize the potential of this data, FINCA is working with a team of data analysis interns to analyze: research methodology, program impact, client expenditures and business performance. Using FINCA’s datasets, interns will work on various projects as assigned involving the following areas and regions of research. Interns will also be able to explore the opportunity to develop projects of their own design.

Special Topics- HIV/AIDS- Health- Youth Unemployment
Working remotely, data analyst interns conduct statistical analysis and present their findings in research paper based on datasets provided by FINCA. At the close of the fall academic semester, data analyst interns are invited to present their findings at a meeting with FINCA staff.
*This unpaid internship may be taken for academic credit.
Interns are encouraged to submit their papers for FINCA’s annual research symposium to be held March 2008, at which winning papers will be presented to peers and industry practitioners. Top monographs will be awarded cash prizes and eligible for publication.
